Robin van Persie (41) is reportedly set to take over as manager of Feyenoord after the Rotterdam club reached out to sc Heerenveen, according to Dutch media.
Several reliable outlets, including Voetbal International and Leeuwarder Courant, reported on Wednesday that Feyenoord is preparing to appoint Van Persie immediately. The club has been without a manager since Danish coach Brian Priske was dismissed on February 10th, and Feyenoord has since qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 after defeating AC Milan.
Van Persie began his professional career at Feyenoord in 2001 before moving to Arsenal in 2004. After his time with the Gunners, he played for Manchester United and Turkish side Fenerbahçe before returning to Feyenoord in 2018. During his season and a half back in Rotterdam, he scored 25 goals and won the KNVB Cup.
Following his retirement as the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer, Van Persie transitioned into coaching. He began as the senior team’s striker coach before taking an assistant role with Feyenoord’s U16 team, where his son Shaqueel played. In the summer of 2023, Van Persie moved up to manage the U18 team alongside head coach Brian Pinas.
In 2024, Eredivisie side sc Heerenveen hired Van Persie after his successful stint with Feyenoord’s U18s in the UEFA Youth League. Under his guidance, Heerenveen is currently fighting for a spot in the European play-offs and sits in ninth place in the Eredivisie with 27 points from 23 games.
If Van Persie does take the Feyenoord job, he could face his former club Arsenal in the Champions League Round of 16.
