Eddie Howe has provided the latest on Newcastle United striker Yoane Wissa, who is currently nursing a knee injury sustained on international duty.
After joining on deadline day, fans could not wait to see the 29-year-old in action on Tyneside after his brilliant 2024/25 campaign.
However, Yoane Wissa was hit with a sudden injury problem while away on international duty with the DR Congo.
Newcastle United have struggled in front of goal this season, with just three goals scored in their opening five Premier League games. While Nick Woltemade hit the ground running on his debut, it is clear that the towering striker needs more time to adapt to the Premier League.
Eddie Howe previously confirmed that Wissa would be out for at least a month, and in his latest press conference, he has provided more clarity on when the striker could return.

Wissa is ready to compete with Woltemade at Newcastle, but he will have to wait a bit longer for his chance to shine in the black and white stripes.
It was a bizarre injury for the striker, who appeared to get his studs caught in the turf while carrying the ball during an attack. Wissa’s injury history is almost non-existent, so it is a shame to see him hurt as soon as he joins the Magpies.
In the meantime, Howe is preparing for Newcastle’s Carabao Cup defence, with a game against Bradford City in the offing on Wednesday night at St James’ Park. The Magpies are expected to rotate their squad for the game, allowing several fringe players the chance to impress.
With Wissa confirmed to miss the game, Howe has confirmed that he is still recovering and could be in contention to play against Brighton on October 18.
“He’s receiving treatment and no operation is needed,” Howe said.
“I think we’re looking at the other side of the international break. We hope he can be fit and available for that first game.”

By no means is Bradford an easy game. The Bantams are flying high in League One, losing just one of their opening nine fixtures to put themselves at the top of the table.
Bradford also beat Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City to reach the third round, so their inclusion in this part of the competition is no laughing matter.
However, Newcastle will be aware that this game is there for the taking, and they can put up a cricket score if given the right approach. A heavy win would be exactly what Howe’s players need at this point in the season to give them the confidence to score more goals.
William Osula will likely start at striker for Newcastle, giving him the opportunity to impress. Meanwhile, Howe could give Seung-soo Park a run-out after his impressive start to life on Tyneside.
Rotating the squad is key, but Howe must also ensure that he selects a strong enough side to get Newcastle into the next round.
