Marco Andretti calls out NASCAR critics of “badass” Katherine Legge

Veteran driver Marco Andretti isn’t mincing words when it comes to defending fellow racer Katherine Legge, who has faced online criticism following her recent performances in stock car events.

Speaking candidly after a testing session at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Andretti addressed the growing chatter surrounding Legge’s transition from open-wheel and sports car racing into NASCAR, calling the backlash “short-sighted” and “ignorant of her talent.”

“She’s a badass, plain and simple,” Andretti said. “Katherine’s raced everything from IndyCar to Le Mans. The idea that she can’t hold her own in a stock car because of a couple bad finishes? Give me a break.”

Legge, a seasoned British driver known for her resilience and versatility, has been making occasional starts in NASCAR’s Xfinity and Cup Series, facing both praise and criticism along the way. While she’s yet to notch a top finish in NASCAR, her experience spans nearly two decades in elite motorsport.

Andretti, who has made select NASCAR starts himself, says fans and analysts alike need to be more patient — and more respectful.

“It’s tough to jump in and compete with guys who’ve been doing this since they were 15. But talent is talent, and Katherine has plenty of it. I’ve raced with her. I know what she’s capable of.”

Legge has kept her responses measured, recently saying, “I’m here to compete, not convince anyone. I’ll let my driving speak for itself.”

As more crossover drivers continue to enter the NASCAR ranks, the spotlight on how quickly they adapt — and how they’re treated in the process — will only intensify. For Andretti, it’s not just about results, but respect.
