A top NASCAR official has addressed recent rumors about the upcoming Cup Series race in Mexico City, putting to rest concerns that the event might be in jeopardy. Speculation had emerged that the Daytona Road Course could serve as a replacement for the race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. However, Brad Moran, the Cup Series Managing Director, made it clear during an interview on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that the Mexico City race is happening as planned. Scheduled for June 15th, this historic event will mark the first points-paying Cup Series race held outside the United States since 1958.
When asked about NASCAR’s plans for Mexico in 2025, Moran emphasized the organization’s commitment to global expansion. “We’re definitely going global, and this is just the beginning,” he said. “Everything is set up for this year’s race. I’ve personally visited the site, and our teams have been working on the ground for over eight months to ensure everything runs smoothly.”
Moran also hinted at NASCAR’s broader international ambitions, drawing parallels to the NFL’s successful global events. He mentioned potential future races in Brazil, Europe, and a long-awaited return to Canada, where the Cup Series hasn’t raced in over 50 years. Adam Stern of the *Sports Business Journal* recently reported that NASCAR is eyeing Brazil for the season-opening Clash exhibition race as early as 2026. Moran didn’t shy away from the possibility, stating, “We’d love to get to Brazil, Canada, and Europe. Mexico is our first step onto the global stage, and we’re pouring a lot of energy into making it a success. We’ve got fantastic partners in OCESA, and we’ll be ready to go in Mexico City from June 13th to 15th.”
